Sanitation Lead

Rate of Pay: $14.00 / hour + .50 shift differential, if night position

Schedule - 12 hour rotating shift

JOB SUMMARY: Provide general leadership of Sanitation Technicians for their respective shifts.  Ensure that sanitation standards set by both Triple T and regulatory authorities are maintained. Train Sanitation employees, audit systems to assure processes are being followed, and communicate any food safety or sanitation issues to the Food Safety Manager. Develop and review sanitation practices and conduct regular audits to assure Sanitation Technicians are following SOPs. 

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Execute the objectives of the Food Safety / Sanitation department
  • Train, develop, and manage Sanitation Technicians for their assigned shifts
  • Work with Food Safety Manager in managing the C&M program by providing guidance to team members
  • Assist Food Safety Manager to develop work instructions / SOPs
  • Conduct Sanitation Technician performance audits
  • Facilitate Sanitation Technician training and development program to assure technicians are successfully trained
  • Audit GMP, Sanitation and Food Safety programs – recommend revisions and facilitate training, as needed
  • Troubleshoot problems associated with production; ensure root cause / corrective actions are appropriate and are fully implemented
  • Ensure that Sanitation Technicians effectively clean & sanitize raw material areas, production, maintenance, and warehouse areas stickily following GMP, HACCP, and SQF guidelines
  • Ensure Sanitation accurately reports information, thoroughly documenting daily reports, and submitting / reporting information to their appropriate shifts
  • Assure transfer of information and knowledge between shifts
  • Facilitate communication of sanitation and food safety updates at shift change meetings, when present
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary and safe work area
  • Follow all required work safe practices. This would include wearing of all required PPE in designated areas, confined space safety, safe chemical handling, fall restraints, etc.
  • Responsible for food safety, pre-requisite programs and food quality related to designated area
  • Report any food safety, quality or safety related issues to management immediately 

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:

  • Be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a routine basis
  • Push / Pull up to 100 pounds on a routine basis
  • Regularly required to climb ladders, sit, stand, bend and lift up to 100 pounds
  • Ability to work outside in all types of weather, climb ladders and work from heights
  • Able to walk / stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time
  • Able to work in congested spaces
  • Potential to work long and / or irregular hours (weekends and holidays included)
  • Ability to work in a potentially physically strenuous environment
  • Combination of Plant and Outside Dock environment
  • Exposure to elements such as odor, noise, heat, cold, dust & chemicals
  • Ability to work in an environment with high levels of grain dust

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED – Highly preferred
  • Ability to speak, write and understand English
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Previous sanitation experience in food industry is preferred – having reached Level 1 of Sanitation Training program - Preferred
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the equipment and its function along with chemical applications awareness – Highly Preferred
  • Knowledge of proper Personal Protective Equipment use as it applies to chemical usage – Highly preferred
  • Basic Mathematical skills – Highly preferred
