Quality Assurance Lead

Starting Rate of Pay:  $15.00 / hour 

Brief Description:

The Quality Assurance (QA) Lead will provide general laboratory leadership of QA Technicians for their respective shifts: 1 & 3 or 2 & 4.  The QA Leads are responsible for ensuring that food products meet standards set by both Triple T and regulatory authorities. QA Leads will train quality assurance employees, audit analytical systems to assure accuracy and precision, and facilitate/communicate QA issues to the QA Manager. The QA Leads will develop and review quality and safety policies, conduct personnel audits to assure QA Technicians are following standard operating procedures and are accurately performing QA testing. 

  • Execute the objectives of the quality assurance department.
  • Trains, develops, and manages Quality Technicians for their assigned shifts. Responsible for the Quality Technicians' day to day activities.
  • Troubleshoot problems dealing with procedures and basic laboratory analytical equipment.
  • Works with Food Safety Manager in managing the C&M program by providing guidance to team members and holding them accountable for their execution of the C&M plans.
  • Additional responsibilities will involve Metrology duties. The Leads will maintain and verify the calibrations of all analytical and process equipment in both the laboratory and production floors.
  • Assist Management in the development of QA/Lab work instructions / SOP’s.
  • Conducts periodic employee QA lab technician audits to identify employee strengths and weaknesses. The QA Leads will subsequently follow up with an employee development program to assure the employees are successfully trained to provide accurate and precise analytical data.
  • Auditor of GMP and Food Safety programs.
  • Troubleshoot problems associated with production; ensure root cause / corrective actions are appropriate and are fully implemented
  • Maintains and improves product quality by evaluating product, company, system, employee performance
  • Partner with Food Safety to ensure that manufacturing operations, raw material handling, maintenance, and warehousing activities stickily follow GMP, HACCP, and SQF guidelines.
  • Monitor, track and report key Quality Indexes as developed by the QA Department.
  • Ensure QA Teams are accurately reporting QA information, thoroughly documenting daily reports, and submitting/reporting information to their appropriate shifts.
  • Assures transfer of information and knowledge between shifts on key QA process and/or procedural changes (One Point Lessons). The QA Lead will facilitate the communication of quality issues at the shift change meetings when present. 

Essential Attributes:

  • Demonstrated application of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP's) and knowledge of GMP's
  • Must have thorough understanding of HACCP, Quality Systems, Food Safety, and QA
  • Must have excellent communication / presentation skills
  • Must be able to read and write proficiently in English and have excellent verbal and written communication / presentation skills
  • Excellent record keeping / documentation skills
  • Must possess superior spreadsheet and database computer skills
  • Personal knowledge/experience of food plant manufacturing
  • Must have excellent Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to work under deadlines, with multiple priorities
  • Ability to work cross-functionally within organization
  • Must be adaptable and flexible
  • Self-driven, results oriented, able to work independently
  • Ability to work with confidential materials

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a routine basis

Must be able to push/pull up to 100 pounds on a routine basis

Regularly required to climb ladders, sit, stand, bend and lift up to 100 pounds

Education and/or Experience:

  • BS in Science / Food Science / Technical Discipline - preferred
  • Prefer 5 years previous Quality Assurance experience in food / pet food manufacturing environments
  • Understanding of plant production systems, FSMA, SQF, GMP, HACCP, SQF sanitation, plant safety, quality systems  and regulations
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Clear understanding of Company mission and values.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule whereby they would periodically cover other shifts for training and/or covering employee absences.
