Micro Lab Technician

Frontenac, Kansas, United States Full-time

Starting Rate of Pay:  $14.00 / hour (.50 shift differential for night shift hours)

Brief Description:

The Quality Assurance Microbiology Lab Technician will perform food microbiological procedures, qualitative and quantitative analyses, distribute test results, contribute to investigative sampling, and provide information requested by management regarding microbiological data.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:                                                

  • Evaluate sample integrity and aseptically prepare for analysis
  • Prepare comps for shipment
  • Perform a variety of quantitative tests in accordance with prescribed methodologies
  • Perform all stages of qualitative testing in accordance with prescribed methodologies
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Perform routine housekeeping functions and inventory as scheduled
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative control setup tasks
  • In charge of receipt, storage, retention and disposal of samples
  • Practice Good Laboratory Practices
  • Report results and maintain document records in accordance with established procedures
  • Assist in maintaining quality system records to comply with all accrediting agencies
  • Responsible for maintenance of equipment and instruments located in the lab, including cleaning and calibration
  • Manage and monitor lab inventory
  • All other duties assigned.

  • Ability to work flexible hours / periodically covering other shifts for training and / or employee absences

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a routine basis

Must be able to push/pull up to 100 pounds on a routine basis

Regularly required to climb ladders, sit, stand, and bend

Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts - 3 am to 3 pm 

Education and/or Experience:

  • BS in Science / Food Science / Technical Discipline - preferred
  • 3 - 5 years previous Quality Assurance experience in food / pet food manufacturing environments - preferred
  • Understand plant production systems, FSMA, SQF, GMP, HACCP, SQF sanitation, plant safety, quality systems  and regulations - preferred
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications - required
  • Clear understanding of Company mission and values
