Brief Description:

The Microbiologist performs food microbiological procedures, qualitative and quantitative analyses, distributes test results, contributes to investigative sampling, and provides information requested by management regarding microbiological data.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:                                                

  • Evaluate sample integrity and aseptically prepare for analysis
  • Prepare comps for shipment
  • Perform a variety of quantitative tests in accordance with prescribed methodologies
  • Perform all stages of qualitative testing in accordance with prescribed methodologies
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Perform routine housekeeping functions and inventory as scheduled
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative control setup tasks
  • In charge of receipt, storage, retention and disposal of samples
  • Practice Good Laboratory Practices
  • Report results and maintain document records in accordance with established procedures
  • Assist in maintaining quality system records to comply with all accrediting agencies
  • Responsible for maintenance of equipment and instruments located in the lab, including cleaning and calibration
  • Manage and monitor lab inventory
  • All other duties assigned.

Ability to work on a rotating, 12 hour shift - starting at 3:00 am - to 3:00 pm, in order to complete comps process

Able to lift up to 50 pounds on a routine basis

Able to push/pull up to 100 pounds on a routine basis

Regularly climb ladders, sit, stand, and bend

Education and/or Experience:

  • BS in Science / Food Science / Technical Discipline - highly preferred
  • 3 - 5 years previous Quality Assurance experience in food / pet food manufacturing environments - preferred
  • Understand plant production systems, FSMA, SQF, GMP, HACCP, SQF sanitation, plant safety, quality systems  and regulations - required
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications - required
  • Clear understanding of Company mission and values
