Mill Room Helper

Position Summary:

Starting Rates: $13.00 / hour (.50 shift differential for night shifts)


Sample and test all incoming ingredients and unload bulk ingredients and supplies.  Operate computerized auto batching systems, understand formulas, and keep process systems full of feed.  Maintain communication with other material handlers and keep a safe and clean work area.


  • Inspect dry and liquid trucks before unloading
  • Measure liquid tanks, monitor temperature, fill out daily paperwork, track sheet, truck logs, and tank measurement and distribute
  • Unload liquids, tote & bulk ingredients
  • Clean up unloading shed, truck areas, liquid unloading building, and liquid storage areas
  • Maintain fat hoses, steam hoses, traps, and fittings
  • Communicate with shift supervisors, scale operator from other shifts, extruder operators, bulk unloader, buyers, truckers, team leaders, quality and sanitation
  • Keep processing units supplied with feed as needed
  • Check and maintain correct paperwork, daily log, and batching sheet
  • Communicate with Correct traceability procedures
  • Weighing up and dumping hand adds
  • Transfer hand add ingredients from warehouse to scale and return when not in use
  • Correct operation of the batching systems. Enter formulas into APEC Batching computer
  • Take inventories & complete appropriate documentation
  • Ensure that we have supplies to run schedule
  • Coordinate the handling of by-product from change-overs and normal operations
  • Monitor and troubleshoot all equipment utilized in processing and separating fines
  • Maintain proper records of bin settings
  • Maintain proper sanitation level in all areas with fines equipment in them
  • Perform all operating checks of equipment to ensure quality
  • Change screens in hammer mills as necessary
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Other duties as required, in order to meet business needs.


  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a routine basis
  • Must be able to push/pull up to 100 pounds on a routine basis
  • Ability to climb and work on scaffolding at high elevations
  • Ability to work in a cold or hot environment


Verifiable H/S Diploma or GED / preferred.

Two (2) years manufacturing or industrial operation experience / highly preferred.

Able to speak English, be literate, able to calculate totals, percentages, and operate some computerized equipment. 

Must be able to develop a daily work plan and adjust as fluctuations in business dictate.  

Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills to deal effectively with internal and external people.

Good work attendance and the willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
